1. Write a basic alphabet or find a font to work with. Print a page of the alphabet of a font if you are using one instead of writing it yourself. If you are writing the alphabet by hand, use graph paper, which is easier to work with due to the lines you can use as a guide.
2. Practice creating a flared style of the letters using a pencil so you can easily erase any mistakes you make or anything that isn't to your liking and then start over again.
3. Draw a rounded or squared edge around each letter. Create these on the top, bottom and each side of the letters. This is necessary in order to give the letters more of a three-dimensional appearance.
4. Use a marker to color the letters once you're satisfied with their look. Trace the outline of each letter with a dark marker and use a lighter color to fill them in. This will give the letters an even more 3-D appearance, which graffiti is known for.
5. Add a drop shadow effect by using a dark marker to create a shape underneath the letters. Make the shadows approximately the same shape as the letters but give them a slightly shorter or elongated slant. Use a gray or black marker to achieve this effect.
